"Gundog training, like many disciplines, is filled with minefields, contradictions and differences of opinion. For me, becoming a gundog trainer evolved from a love of dogs and a love of fieldsports. It wasn't on any list of career choices when I left school." Gundog training is about having an affinity with dogs, understanding their method of learning, a watchful eye and good timing. Every trainer has his/her own unique style developed over time, and I believe that keeping commands simple and straight-forward leads to less confusion in both dog and handler. We own many types of working Gundogs and train for the field and competition. We take dogs in for residential training with us and Minor Breeds are most welcome. As a Kennel Club 'A' panel judge I am invited to both judge and train handlers across Europe where my aim remains; to produce healthy, educated, well rounded dogs which are fit for function. We breed Labrador and spaniel pups and train some of these on to become fully trained dogs for shooting families. At Oakshot we believe in health checks before breeding. A low hip score in a Sire and Dam will not guarantee a low score in a litter – but it will increase the chances. If you agree with our objectives – then speak to us about the best course of action towards training your dogs. Thank you for visiting the Oakshot website. Graham and Heather Slater |
"We believe that a dogs education should be treated like any other learning; little and often, right and wrong, start early and don’t rush." Other Oakshot Information:
